Prishtina State of Mind: Overcoming Limiting Beliefs in a City of Limited Opportunities

Growing up in Prishtina, I found myself grappling with a deep-seated inferiority complex. The city's limited opportunities and prioritization of small ideas over genuine innovation or bigger-impact ideas left me feeling as though achieving a six-figure income was reserved only for those with exceptional talent, those who lived abroad, or those engaged in gray-zone business practices.

Perhaps my humble upbringing also contributed to my sense of limitation.

Unfortunately, this state of mind can make starting a business in Prishtina a daunting task. It took me years to convince myself to start a business, and when I did, facing very limited access to finance, the only source of funding for growth and expansion was my own ability to generate revenue out of every small job I could get my hands on. But how can one achieve this when surrounded by individuals who share the same limited mindset? The lack of networking opportunities with those who have already achieved success, or the "old money" team, only compounds the challenge of becoming an entrepreneur in this city.

I needed to get out of my mindset and adopt a "soft megalomaniac" attitude to be able to start a business and experience moderate success, shedding this complex. But had I failed, I imagine the complex would have only grown deeper.

Once I had skin in the game, I noticed it became easier because new paths started opening up. However, I'm still working to achieve the mindset that is equal to success in the world's greatest economies, like London, Tokyo, or New York.

The key takeaway from my experience is that taking this setback as a learning experience, helped me shift my mindset, which I still consider it needs improving further. I've learned that developing a resilient mindset is a life-time cycle that never stops.
